Thru 3: Olsen getting hammered

← return to Chatter

If you missed yesterday’s game, this one looks like a very close replay of it. Again, the Marlins are teeing off on a left-handed pitcher  who doesn’t have his best stuff. Or, I should say, they were; Scott Olsen is out of the game after three innings for Julian Tavarez, just as John Lannan was yesterday. It’s 8-0 Marlins. Yikes.

Olsen’s final line: 3 IP, 8 H, 8 R, 3 BB, 2 K, 1 WP, 2 HR. He threw 69 pitches, 41 strikes.

His fastball topped out around 88 mph, which is about where he ended last season and well off where he started 2008. His slider looked good from time to time, but he mostly stuck to a fastball and a changeup.

Lastings Milledge, again, came up short on a pair of retreating attempts that led to triples when the center fielder couldn’t pull off a diving catch. Emilio Bonifacio even thought about running through a stop sign at third for another inside-the-park job.

The Nationals’ offense is hitting Josh Johnson, but not stringing together any runs. Milledge has struck out in both of his at-bats.
