Thru 3: The ball's flying outta here

← return to Chatter

Something funny’s going on here today at Wrigley Field. The wind’s most definitely blowing in from right field, yet the ball’s flying out of here. Only three innings in, there have already been three bombs: from Ryan Zimmerman, Adam Dunn and Aramis Ramirez.

Put it all together, and the Nationals have a 5-2 lead on the Cubs, though it was 5-0 before Ramirez just took J.D. Martin deep in the bottom of the third. Martin needs to be careful. He was handed a nice lead, can’t be handing it right back.

Of course, the way the Nats are swinging the bat against Randy Wells, there could be plenty more offense to come. Zimmerman hit an absolute laser to left-center in the first for a two-run homer. That’s his 27th of the season to go along with 88 RBI and a .304 average. We haven’t talked about him much lately, but Zim is putting together a really, really good season.

So, too, is Dunn, who tattooed a 2-2 pitch from Wells in the third and found the right-center bleachers. That was Dunn’s 34th homer of the season to go along with 90 RBI and a .284 average. Can we officially say he’s been worth the money? I think so.
