Thru 4 1/2: Livo gets rocked, Nats down 6

← return to Chatter

Not a whole lot of brilliant insight to offer you here, dear readers. The Nationals are losing 8-2 to the Dodgers midway through this one because, well, Livan Hernandez was atrocious.

The right-hander broke out a couple of those 63-mph curves against Manny Ramirez, and that was good fun, but the rest of his night was awful. He threw 43 of 84 pitches for strikes, allowed two more batters (12) to reach base than he retired (10) and walked three (one intention) in the Dodgers’ seven-run fourth. This team’s offense isn’t strong enough at this point to recover from a deficit like that, so we’re probably looking at loss No. 99 tonight.

And speaking of No. 99—Manny Ramirez—he’s been booed heartily all night. But he’s got a double, an RBI, a walk and a run so far.

The Nationals’ only runs came after Ryan Zimmerman reached on an error in the third inning and Adam Dunn hit his 38th homer of the year. It put the Nats up 2-1, but the lead was short-lived.
