The Washington Area Metro Transit Authority on Thursday discussed a 5-cent surcharge on Metrorail passengers entering and exiting the Union Station stop.

Agency board members said the money will go exclusively to renovations at the stop.

The issue could be debated as early as next week at a board meeting. Board members also said the public will be able to comment at meeting next month on proposed plans to limiting rail and bus service on weekend nights.
