What's up with that?

Some retail stores opened their doors on Thanksgiving to beat their Black Friday competitors. What’s up with that?

“The way the economy is, I’m more concerned for people’s jobs. If people are working and getting paid, that’s fine. On Thanksgiving we should give thanks people are employed.”

Sherone Joyner, Columbia Heights, writer

“I didn’t take advantage of it, but I think it’s shame employees had to drag themselves to work.”

Bob Keller, 58, Columbia Heights, bartender

“I don’t see anything wrong with that. I just feel bad for the workers. I didn’t go shopping on Black Friday. I’m a last-minute shopper.”

Nicholas Macauley, 28, Columbia Heights, photographer

“I feel bad for the employees. I’ve got family members who work retail, and it’s hard for them to get home for family time.”

Titra Hamilton, 44, Columbia Heights, information technology
