One of today’s depth chart surprises in College Park was Jared Harrell and Masengo Kabongo swapping positions on the defensive line.

“I think that’s an experiment right now,” coach Ralph Friedgen said. “We’re just seeing if Harrell can play the defensive end spot and Kabongo can play the Anchor spot. If they can and it helps us, fine. If not, we’r going to get the two best players in, whoever they might be.”

Harrell is listed ahead of Derek Drummond at the defensive end spot. The Anchor, meanwhile, is the end who lines up opposite the tight end.

One other player on the move is Cody Blue, a defensive lineman who spent last year in prep school before arriving in the spring. More accurately, he was a defensive line, since the Terps switched him to offense for the start of camp.

“We need an offensive lineman and Cody has the height – we think he’s going to get a lot bigger,” Friedgen said. “It’s going to take him time to learn. We’ll see how he does. If he doesn’t adapt, we can always move him back to defense. I think this gives him the best chance of playing, maybe after college also. If it doesn’t look like it’s going to work, I’ll move him back. I think he’s a kid who’s going to redshirt this year anyway.”
