More than two months since Maryland had two assistants bolt, the Terrapins finally have a full staff.
Meet Charles Bankins, the program’s third special teams coordinator and tight ends coach in the last three seasons.
The basics from his CV:
* He was the running backs coach and special teams coordinator last season.
* He coached Tim Hightower at Richmond.
* He was the coach on a championship team at Richmond last season.
* He did a minority internship with the Green Bay Packers in 2002 – three years before James Franklin arrived for a one-year stint on the team’s staff.
He’s also a native of Leonardtown, Md., and presumably somewhat familiar with the area for recruiting purposes.
Of course, his bio on Richmond’s website – which you can see here – somewhat ominously lists his recruiting areas as “Northern Neck Va., Fla., Alaska, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan.”
Here’s guessing you’re not mining much recruiting gold out of Anchorage. And no matter what, that’s a random collection of states.
In any case, he’s Danny Pearman’s replacement. And at long last, there is no room at the inn for Maryland’s staff.
