Navy reserve right guard Francis Archibald will miss the 2011 season as he continues to recuperate from a shoulder injury, a team spokesman said Sunday.

The 6-foor-2, 285-pound Archibald played in seven games a season ago as John Dowd’s backup before undergoing surgery Nov. 19 to repair his shoulder.

Archibald was listed as the No. 2 right guard for the Midshipmen entering spring practice, which begins Monday. Dowd started every game at right guard over the last two seasons.

Senior Zack Dryden is now listed as Dowd’s immediate backup, with senior Alex Boddiford now the third-string right guard.
