Maryland defensive coordinator Brian Stewart’s time at Houston didn’t overlap with West Virginia coach Dana Holgorsen‘s.

Holgorsen left Houston after the 2009 season. Stewart joined the Cougars’ staff in 2010.

But Stewart is plenty familiar with the Air Raid offense favored by Houston during his tenure and West Virginia today.

The experience of seeing it every day, even if Holgorsen was already gone by then, figures to help Stewart prepare the Terrapins for at least part of facing such a potent scheme when Saturday’s game arrives.

“The way the defense is set up with the no huddle and the wrist bands that we use, it came from playing against that offense in practice,” Stewart said Wednesday. “That’s how we set up. I don’t anticipate communication being a problem. What I do anticipate is it’s hard to practice at that speed.”

To be fair, Maryland is hardly alone in facing that predicament.
