Shaone Morrisonn, who went to arbitration yesterday, signed a one-year, $1.975 million deal with the Caps today. Morrisonn, 25, had a goal and 10 points last season. He was Mike Green’s defense partner for much of Bruce Boudreau’s tenure, and was credited for helping allow Green to blossom as an offensive force. He as a -10 with Glen Hanlon and a +14 with Boudreau.
He made $900,000 last season. He was a tricky case because a lot of his value is not wrapped up in black-and-white statistics. He will make more than Kurt Sauer ($1.75 million) but significantly less than free agents Brooks Orpik and Jeff Finger. He and Orpik are probably closer than a lot of people think, though Orpik does have a little more snarl to his game.
I’d try to devote more time to this, but I am out at Redskin Park. If you were not among the announced crowd of 28,000 people here today, consider yourself lucky after all of the traffic headaches.
