Second period thoughts

← return to In The Room

Goals from Mike Green (on the power play) and Boyd Gordon have the Caps ahead 2-0 after 40 minutes. Michael Nylander set up both goals with pretty passes, and has generally been a dominant player in the offensive end.

Other notes:

*With Viktor Kozlov out, Alexander Semin has joined Alex Ovechkin and Nicklas Backstrom on the top line, with Nylander in between Eric Fehr and Tomas Fleischmann on the second unit.

*Fehr just missed on a one-timer and then went on a hitting spree during one shift, but it ended with Rod Pelley clipping him in open ice. He got up gingerly but returned … and took his second penalty of the night. Fehr’s clearly got more jump with a healthy back, but he’s got to harness it and stay out of the penalty box.

*Brent Johnson only saw five shots in the second period, but was very solid again.
