Bruce Boudreau has always had a presence in the Toronto area with his hockey camp, but now he’s going to do even more the youth in the Greater Toronto Hockey League.
Boudreau and longtime friend John Anderson are going to be hosting the Bruce Boudreau/John Anderson Celebrity Golf Classic, which will be July 27 at Lionhead Golf and Country Club in Brampton, Ontario.
Money raised from an auction during the event will go towards paying for fees and equipment for kids who otherwise can’t afford it. The GTHL will identify the kids, and players from the youth league will serve as caddies for the 36 groups in the event (Boudreau said spots in the field sold out much quicker than he expected).
Among the 36 celebs are hockey players like Mike Green, David Steckel, Matt Bradley, John Erskine from the Caps and guys from around the league like Mike Cammalleri, Dennis Wideman and David Clarkson. Don Cherry is also going to be there, along with TSN broadcaster Gord Miller.
Boudreau said he hopes to possibly help put on a similar event in the DC area someday, and a representative from the Caps organization will be there in Brampton taking notes. Boudreau is already a beloved figure in this area, and helping underpriviledged kids play hockey would only bolster his stature.
