Bruce Boudreau addressed the media this morning before Game 6 of this Eastern Conference semifinals series. He was asked about a couple of his slumping star players, and his reactions were a quite a bit different.

Alexander Semin has no goals and is a minus-5 in this series after potting five goals and being a plus-5 against the Rangers.

“I have no idea what’s behind [his struggles], and we’ve tried a lot of different things,” Boudreau said. “Hopefully whatever we try to today will make him play his best.”

Mike Green has an assist in four straight games, but he has had his issues at the defensive end this series (much more so than against New York). He is also a minus-2 against Penguins.

“He [was] leading the league in defenseman scoring [before last night],” Boudreau said. “I mean, we can complain and b*tch about him all we want and expect more from him. He’s trying his rear end off. He’s not looking as pretty as he did in the regular season, but he’s got nine points in 12 games. … Our expectations must be so high that it is unreachable.”

UPDATE: Donald Brashear is on the ice with the Caps for their morning skate, which is just getting under way. Brashear is eligible to play tonight, but yesterday Bruce Boudreau said it would “be tough” to put him back in the lineup.

Alexander Semin is not on the ice for the skate, but he is watching from the stands.
