OK, so this is going to be a reoccuring feature this season — a peak inside the Scribes League, which is an eight-team fantasy hockey league featuring four members of The Washington Times and four members of um, that other paper across town.
We will split the four teams into two divisions on here, but it is an eight-team, roto-style league with eight categories — Goals, Assists, +/-, PIMs, Power-play points, Wins, GAA, Saves (sorry, we don’t do GWGs or shutouts).
What’s the prize at the end of the year? Pride. Lots and lots of Pride.
Here’s a quick synopsis of who’s in the league (Note: everyone knew this was going to be public, including the embarassment of finishing last):
Dave Fay Division
Stephen Whyno: No. 2 starter on Caps, 14 other beats
Ryan O’Halloran: Jim Zorn watch, then Caps
Michael Petre: Copy Editor supreme
Corey Masisak: Eye candy
Bob Fachet Division
Lindsay Applebaum: NHL editor, Jewish rights activist
Katie Carrera: No. 2 starter on Caps, HS volleyball expert
Lacy Lusk: Benedict Arnold (actually he’s a fantastic copy editor and won our old league 3 out of the past 4 years — he used to work for us before he was kidnapped)
Tarik El-Bashir: Writer, husband, father, fantasy chump
We had our draft Monday night (just ended about an hour ago), and we’ll post updated standings each week with a little bit of info on who’s doing well/poorly for each team. If there were an easy way to import everyone’s roster onto here, I would do it. But that’s not happening.
