President Obama will travel to Paterson, N.J., Sunday to see the damage inflicted by Hurricane Irene, the White House has announced.
Flooding has hit hard in New Jersey, the most densely populated state in the U.S., with swollen rivers keeping more than 10,000 residents from their homes.
Overall, Irene killed at least 45 people along the Eastern Seaboard, causing losses of at least $12 billion and leaving more than 6.5 million homes and businesses without electricity.
It will be the president’s first trip to see damage from the storm. Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano visited New York and New Jersey Wednesday.
