Rep. Dave Camp thanked well-wishers for their support after announcing this weekend that he will undergo chemotherapy for a highly treatable for of non-Hodgkins lymphoma.
“Thankfully my health is otherwise excellent and my doctors and I expect a full recovery and cure,” he said.
The Michigan Republican and chairman of the powerful House Ways and Means Committee said the large B-cell lymphoma was discovered during a routine physical exam in the early stages of the disease.
Mr. Camp will receive chemotherapy every three weeks for several months, but said he expects to fully recover and will continue his work in between the treatment sessions.
House Speaker John A. Boehner of Ohio said he has no doubt Mr. Camp will “whip this with characteristic strength and grace.”
“Today I extend to Chairman Camp and his family the support and prayers of the whole House, which will stand with him just as he has always stood with us,” Mr. Boehner said.
