Sequester idea: Park Air Force One

One congressman has offered an idea for where the White House could find some savings with the looming spending sequesters: Stop taking trips on Air Force One.

“The president needs to park Air Force One, abandon his sequester fear-mongering tour, and return to his job in Washington to actually work with us to cut the waste and finally get Washington to start living within its means,” said Rep. Steve Scalise, the chairman of the conservative Republican Study Committee.

It costs about $180,000 per hour to fly the president’s modified Boeing 747, according to the latest estimates.

President Obama flew to Newport News, Va., on Tuesday to demand Republicans accept tax increases as a way to head off at least part of the sequesters.
