So four Redskins on this 7-7 team made the NFC Pro Bowl roster: Clinton Portis, Chris Cooley, Mike Sellers and Chris Samuels. Years from now, when people consider the legacy of these players, what will this mean?
Hopefully, not much. The Pro Bowl has always been a joke in terms of measuring the legacy of a player. This is Samuels’ sixth Pro Bowl selection. Does that give him a greater place in history than Joe Jacoby, who was only named four times, yet made the All-NFL roster at tackle for the 1980s? Obviously not.
And consider this — John Riggins made just one Pro Bowl roster in his entire Hall of Fame career. He was named All-Pro twice, though, a more significant honor.
I will be on The Sports Reporters on ESPN 980 AM on Monday, Dec. 22, and Tuesday, Dec. 23, from 4 to 7 p.m.
