Washington Nationals team president Stan Kasten, speaking to reporters this morning at spring training, invited workers for the team to step up and be heard.

“Everyone should view this as an occasion for opportunity, an occasion to demonstrate initiative, and to show the same enthusiasm that all of us around the team feel about the team itself,” he said. “We should feel that way about the front office, as well. I do think there are opportunities for renewed initiative. I’d like to see it, it would get rewarded.”

Reading in between the lines, and knowing the fear and distrust that existed in some circles in the organization before, it seems to me Kasten is saying that you can now speak up and offer ideas without fear of retribution or ridicule — that the exit of Jim Bowden as general manager has made it safe to “demonstrate initiative.”
