Heyer starting over Jansen

Stephon Heyer, a rookie free agent last year, just told us that he’s been told that he’s starting at right tackle ahead of longtime regular Jon Jansen in Thursday’s season opener at the Super Bowl champion New York Giants. Coach Jim Zorn surprised us on Friday by saying that there was competition at the position. Jansen sprained his left foot at Carolina on Aug. 23 but he’s supposed to be ready for the Giants and the decision being made so early means that it likely wasn’t based on the veteran’s health.
