Grimm a bridesmaid again?

← return to Redskins 360

Will it be five straight years of always a bridesmaid, never a bride status for Russ Grimm. One of the original Hogs, Grimm was voted to four straight Pro Bowls and helped the Redskins win four NFC titles and three Super Bowls during his 1981-91 career. However, the left guard on the All-1980s team has come up short of election to the Hall of Fame four straight winters.

Grimm was announced today as one of 25 semifinalists for this year’s election. I’m the Washington selector. Fifteen of the 25 men I hoped to see reach this point did so I won’t have a tough time voting for my 15 finalists. I do feel bad for former Redskins owner Jack Kent Cooke and general manager Bobby Beathard. They were inadvertently left off the original ballot of 125 names, thus making it easy for selectors to ignore them. Maybe they’ll have better luck next year. And maybe Grimm will have better luck if he gets back in the room again in February. After all, Grimm’s longtime teammate Art Monk kept coming up short until he was finally elected this year.
