J. Taylor intends to play

Old friend Jason Taylor broke his public silence by commenting on his release from the Redskins during another of his charity events. He spoke to a Miami television station, which provided the footage to News 4 in Washington.

Said Taylor: “I’m playing football. I guarantee that. I don’t know where it’s going to be. It might in Canada, it might be over in Europe somewhere. But I’m playing ball. I have a passion for the game. Everyone questions commitment and all this other crap that’s out there and that I left D.C. because I didn’t want to work out. That couldn’t be further from the truth.”

Hmm, interesting stuff. The Redskins claimed that’s exactly why Taylor was jettisoned after one injury-plagued and unproductive season — he wouldn’t commit to a set number of off-season workouts (something that was included in the contracts of Albert Haynesworth, DeAngelo Hall and Derrick Dockery).

Ever since this went down, I’ve held firm that the Redskins knew Taylor would balk at making several trips north from Miami, making it easy to release him. And it’s clear that Taylor never fit into the Redskins’ defensive scheme.

In any event, as columnist Dan Daly predicted months ago, it’s a safe bet Taylor ends up in New England as a situational pass rusher in the Patriots’ 3-4 defense.
