DREAM Act vote scheduled this weekend

A cloture vote is planned for the DREAM Act at this afternoon. 60 votes are needed to go forward on a vote on the amnesty bill and Roy Beck, President of Numbers USA, an Arlington, Virginia based anti-illegal immigration group, sees its final passage remaining shaky.

“The Republicans are holding strong,” Mr. Beck told me on Friday evening. “There are Democrats that are up and competitive races in 2012. it will be difficult for them to have an amnesty target on their back for their competitors. Manchin, Tester, Baucus, Pryor— McCaskill is still on the fence. I don’t think she’s going to want to take this on. I would be shocked if we lose this tomorrow.”

However, some Republicans like Senator Dick Lugar of Ohio and Senator Bob Bennett of Ohio.

“The fact is this is an amnesty with no enforcement. For six years all the pro- amnesty people have said we got to have both legalization and enforcement to stop illegal immigration. The DREAM Act has no enforcement. There’s nothing to reduce future illegal immigration in the DREAM Act has no enforcement and nothing to reduce future illegal immigration,” Mr. Beck said.
