Good afternoon from Norfolk, Virginia, cite of the Orioles‘ Class AAA affiliate and this afternoon’s game between the Nationals and the Orioles. The stop is the first half of a two-game exhibition series that will conclude tomorrow night at Nationals Park before the Nationals head to Florida for Opening Day and the Orioles head home to their loyal crowd of Mark Teixeira boobirds (check out this song a few O’s fans, calling themselves “The Boooog Pows,” wrote about Teixeira before the Orioles’ opener with the Yankees on Monday).

The Tidewater ties are coming out in full force today, mostly surrounding Ryan Zimmerman, who grew up in this area and played on those famed AAU teams with Justin Upton, David Wright and Michael Cuddyer. Zimmerman held his own press conference and took batting practice to an endless chorus of kids shouting for autographs. Even Lastings Milledge, who couldn’t remember exactly when he played here when Norfolk was a Mets affiliate, got his own session with reporters.

Onto baseball news…not a whole lot to report here yet today. Manny Acta said the Nationals will make their final roster decisions tomorrow. He said the Nationals still have to decide on the last two spots on the right side and the left side of their bullpen. Couldn’t tell if that was a clue about how many left-handers they’ll take north, but Acta said they wouldn’t be afraid to take three left-handers in the bullpen. So Mike Hinckley and Wil Ledezma might be in good shape at this point. We’ll see.

Daniel Cabrera makes his final start of the spring today against Koj Uehara. Check back for more later.
