This is shaping up to be an interesting day here at Miller Park. Jim Riggleman has already been ejected, and the Nationals trail 2-0 after three innings.
Nats starter J.D. Martin gave up a homer to Craig Counsell on a changeup in the third inning, one batter after Felipe Lopez singled. That’s been the only real problem Martin’s had so far, but with Yovani Gallardo cruising for the Brewers, it might be enough for Milwaukee to stay ahead for good.

Gallardo gave up leadoff hits in two of the first three innings, but benefitted when the Nats tried to advance twice on balls in the dirt and were thrown out both times. Otherwise, he’s been stellar, striking out three and using his nasty curveball to great effect.
Now, for Riggleman: He got tossed in the third inning, bypassing home plate umpire Joe West to argue with third-base umpire Paul Nauert. Nobody in the press box was sure exactly what the dispute was about—it came after Anderson Hernandez’s swinging strikeout—but in any case, Riggleman is out of the game and West, who is working his 4,000th game today, got a managerial ejection to highlight it.
