Just a quick check-in before I board a flight from Tampa to LaGuardia for the start of the Nats-Yankees series tomorrow. The Nationals are staying quiet on the Manny Acta front, and if the manager isn’t fired today, it’s tough to see it happening before this weekend.
Acta, who lives about 90 minutes from Tampa, left with the team for its flight to New York last night. It’s typically not customary to fire a manager in the middle of a road trip, but if the Nationals were going to do it, it would seem like they wouldn’t have made him fly up to New York only to send him home. That said, stranger things have happened (remember Willie Randolph last year?), and an off-day is a good time to make a clean break.
