The Nationals trail 5-0 after six innings, and this one’s shaping up to be another loss. Jordan Zimmermann was far from his best tonight—he was good against just about everybody besides the Cardinals’ best hitters, and they made him pay. Albert Pujols, Chris Duncan and Ryan Ludwick combined to go 6-for-9 against Zimmermann with three homers and all five of the Cardinals’ RBI.

If anything did Zimmermann in, from my point of view, it was his off-speed stuff. His curveball wasn’t there to keep hitters from sitting on the fastball, and his slider didn’t have much bite—it was that pitch that Zimmermann left up on the home run Ludwick hit in the sixth inning.

On the other side, the Nationals haven’t done much against Todd Wellemeyer—just not working the count much and building any decent at-bats against him.
