Let’s first dispense with the weekly honors. The Vandwagon’s Shady Mechanic shared the lead with Karl Rove Eats Babies. That’s three wins in four weeks to end the year for the Mechanic, who finished 44 points out of first overall. That deficit was at 40 points by Sept. 6, which shows the value of making good selections early; unlike in college football, it’s better to lose late when there aren’t as many points at stake.

As for the overall title, it came down to the final game of the college football regular season … and with Cincinnati‘s late rally, I managed to best all my loyal readers in the D1scourse Challenge with 1,970 points.

Of course, I have no need for the Big Bag of Bowl Graft, so A Fridge Too Far (who rolled the dice with Hawaii and would have shared the title had the Warriors won) gets the top prize anyway. He had 1,966 points.

Turner Portis surged into third place on the final weekend of the season, earning (if he really wants it) a copy of a book authored by former Maryland coach Ron Vanderlinden. There’s also some leftover and incoming bowl goodies, which (a) might be more appealing and (b) won’t require me to go on and make a purchase. But a promise is a promise, and I’ll fulfull it.

In fourth place is TSR-slatter, a loyal reader who I suspect will be perfectly happy with a free burrito from Chipotle.

Thanks again to everyone who participated this season. And remember to sign up for the D1scourse Bowl Challenge here (Group: 1417; password: iwantin) in the chase for more bowl goodies (and maybe a small snippet of blue sod).
