ANNAPOLIS – Navy SID Scott Strasemeier just reminded me of a stat I floated out in the blog a few months ago.

During the memorable college football countdown during the summer, the entry on Navy mentioned how no coach in program history had ever taken the Midshipmen to a bowl in his first season.

Until now.

Ken Niumatalolo did it tonight as the Midshipmen locked up an EagleBank Bowl bid. And with one more win, he’ll join Wayne Hardin (1959) and Gary Tranquill (1982) as the only post-World War II coaches with winning records in their debut season in Annapolis.

One last entry for the night coming in a moment.
