As an interactive feature on the blog, the D1scourse Challenge became a moderate success when 40 people joined.

Granted, not everyone has paid attention all season, but that’s OK. There is still enough interest to justify the weekly posts.

But in an attempt to get something a little bigger and a little better, it’s time to unveil the D1scourse Bowl Challenge.

Yep, Yahoo just opened up its bowl pick ‘em, weeks before any, you know, actual matchups are set. But hey, why not get things started early?

The Yahoo groups for this little venture can entertain up to 500 entries. And while I can’t expect that sort of participation, cracking three figures with about a month to sign up is a reasonably ambitious goal.

As some incentive, the prize for winning this (and, what they heck, finishing second) will be some goodies collected from my travels in December – which already include the EagleBank Bowl and a Maryland bowl game to be named, as well as possibly the ACC title game.

(Maryland fans please refrain from complaining about my use of “December”; should the Terps reach the Orange or Gator bowls, I’ll have to be on the road in late December covering their goings-on).

Anyway, anyone with a Yahoo ID can join at this site. Here’s the relevant data:
