Oh, Navy, how I enjoy your occasional quirkiness.

Your football practices are open, your coaches are accessible, you find the wackiest ways to become bowl eligible.

And just a few days after achieving said bowl eligibility, Navy pops out its schedule for next fall. Never too early to starting thinking ahead, no?

Since the ACC didn’t unveil its ‘08 schedule until about two weeks before Miami started spring practice, however, I am not arguing or complaining about anything connected with releasing next year’s slate when there are still three games and a bowl still on the horizon this year.

So here’s the rundown, with the Mids’ last meeting with each opponent in parentheses:

Sept. 5: at Ohio State (Ohio State 31-28, 1981 Liberty Bowl)
Sept. 12: Louisiana Tech (First meeting)
Sept. 19: at Pittsburgh (Pittsburgh 42-21, 2008)
Sept. 26: Western Kentucky (First meeting)
Oct. 3: Air Force (Navy 33-27, 2008)
Oct. 10: at Rice (Navy 41-9, 2005)
Oct. 17: at SMU (Navy 34-7, 2008)
Oct. 24: Wake Forest (Navy 24-17, 2008)
Oct. 31: Temple (Navy 33-27-OT, 2008)
Nov. 7: at Notre Dame (will meet Nov. 15, 2008)
Nov. 14: Delaware (Delaware 59-52, 2007)
Nov. 21: at Hawaii (Hawaii 48-41, 1999)
Dec. 12: vs. Army in Philadelphia (will meet Dec. 6, 2008)

So here’s the breakdown:

* Seven teams return to the schedule from this season

* Delaware replaces Towson as the regional team from the former I-AA

* Hawaii is added as a 13th game

* Ohio State, Louisiana Tech, Western Kentucky and Rice are on the schedule; Ball State, Northern Illinois, Duke and Rutgers are off the schedule.
