No, it isn’t a misprint when you look at the coaching staff of Northwood.

The man stalking the sideline at the NAIA school is none other than Rollie Massimino, the man who led Villanova to a national title in 1985.

One of his coaching adversaries in the Big East at that time —- none other than Gary Williams, who was at Boston College at the time.

Sometimes, these preseason exhibitions have no rhyme or reason to them. In this case, there is a clear connection.

“He was harassing me about the game,” Williams joked.

As it turns out, Massimino had a homecoming game at Villanova —- at the Spectrum, no less, which is in its final season before a scheduled demolition.

Anyway, a trip down I-95 to College Park made sense to make the northward swing especially useful, and it conjured some memories from Williams about his rough-and-tumble Big East days.

Not to mention some ideas of what to expect tomorrow.

“He’s a very good coach,” Williams said. “Tomorrow you’ll see zone, man-to-man, pressure. He’s not afraid to switch defenses. I think they won 27 games last year, so they’re pretty good.”
