Chris Turner is something of a jersey collector, and is known to pop up in Maryland’s interview room wearing the threads of European soccer clubs or the Los Angeles Lakers.

Yesterday, he appeared in a new Darren McFadden Raiders jersey —- the black version with silver letters.

(As an aside, now that the Oakland Raiders have been mentioned, I would be incredibly remiss not to provide this link to a bit of John Facenda greatness. Seriously, this is nothing short of awesome, and well worth the one-minute investment to go watch it. My favorite portion: An interception return for a touchdown in the Super Bowl against the Redskins, Facenda intoning “… a raider, pillaging just for fun.”)

Anyway, Turner was particularly pleased with how last weekend went —- not only did his Terrapins win, but so did Oakland.

“Everyone wants to be a Raider fan now,” Turner said. “Get on the bandwagon while you still can, fellas.”

The Sunday experience got better for Turner. He was at one of the College Park establishments as the Raiders upended the Jets in overtime. That’s the Brett Favre-led Jets, in case you hadn’t heard that he’s now in New York. Turner, meanwhile, was clad in a Raiders shirt and enjoyed the outcome despite the numbers against him in CP.

“I did catch the overtime,” Turner said of his Raider-watching. “There were like 50 Jets fans and me.”

There is much to be said for watching the agony of Jets or Giants or Redskins fans while taking in a Sunday at a bar in a college town. If your team is causing it, it has to be even more enjoyable.

Just ask Turner —- even if he won’t have too much company on that Raider bandwagon for a while.
