This injury report doubles as an update on tight end Matt Furstenburg‘s status.
The true freshman played on the kickoff return team the first two weeks, then disappeared when Dan Gronkowski was inserted in his place.
His “leg” injury is a bum ankle, and coach Ralph Friedgen said he’s probably a week away from returning.
The Terps are surprisingly thin at tight end, but the fact Gronkowski has battled through his own ankle problems and Tommy Galt and Lansford Watson have avoided the injury list has helped cover up this deficiency.
The only player not in an “out” category —- either for this week or the season —- is quarterback Jordan Steffy. We’ll get a much better sense of Steffy’s health when the Virginia Tech game rolls around and Friedgen has to make a choice as to whether it’s worth it to take four quarterbacks on a road trip.
Assuming everyone’s healthy, Chris Turner and Josh Portis would be the two QBs likely to play. And Jamarr Robinson is the backup holder, not a small role in case Travis Baltz somehow got hurt.
Anyway, here’s the rundown of the full, official injury list that just landed in my e-mail:
