ATLANTA —- Today’s thing that isn’t fun: Acknowledging the existence of 4 a.m.

Alas, it does exist, as I discovered anew this morning.

So it’s a few hours from the start of the interview sessions here at the Marriott Marquis, and there will no doubt be some NCAA tournament lobbying in full force.

Maryland coach Gary Williams called for seven bids yesterday before a game was even played. While it’s rather silly —- the same goes for Louisville’s Rick Pitino saying the Big East merited 10 tournament spots —- Williams is right when he says it doesn’t hurt any.

More to come later, though how much is dicey. There’s two stories to write, plenty of coaches to talk to, Ralph Friedgen’s teleconference to listen to and an 8:45 flight back to Baltimore to catch this evening.
