It was a Count vcn Count special at Byrd Stadium: TWO, two unsportsmanlike conduct penalties. Mwa ha ha.

Ralph Friedgen, though, wasn’t laughing. Maybe it’s because the celebration after Isaiah Williams‘ touchdown catch and Jamari McCollough‘s ill-advised decision to remove his helmet on the field both resulted in 15-yard penalties.

Friedgen explained he wasn’t a fan of the excessive celebration rule whenever the outbursts aren’t demeaning to the other team. But he also accepts that the rule exists, which probably constitutes progress in Ralph-Ref relations. He certainly won’t be hearing from the ACC when he says his players need to follow the rules.

“We could have got called a couple times last week,” Friedgen said. “I pointed it out in a team meeting and we went ahead and did it again. I’m going to tell you if it happens again, I’m going to be very angry about that. Let me say that again. Angry. I told them in the locker room that I hope they understand, they don’t want to make me angry.”

There is no truth to the rumor that Ralph then turned green and tossed his podium through a window.

But if we eventually find ourselves in RALPH SMASH mode, I’ll offer up my increasingly useless (and soon to be put out to pasture) laptop as a prop.

Think that might be a YouTube sensation?
