Well, the first two possessions could have been worse for Maryland.

Clemson could have actually scored a touchdown rather than stall in the red zone. And Chris Turner nearly had a pass picked off and returned for a touchdown.


As it is, Clemson ran pretty much how it wanted at Maryland, relying on its slightly stronger right side of the line to open holes against a Maryland defense that clearly doesn’t look very good. C.J. Spiller just did the same thing to start the Tigers’ second drive —- start left, go right, gain eight.

Maryland defensive coordinator Chris Cosh would be wise to solve this problem, or Spiller and James Davis will repeat their twin 100-yard games from last year.
