Even if pass defense didn’t kill Maryland yesterday, it’s no secret the Terps could use an extra cornerback.

Might the return of Nolan Carroll be coming? It seems iffy.

“It’s a possibility of us getting Carroll,” coach Ralph Friedgen said during his teleconference this hour. “It’ll be close. It’s a possibility. We could rellaly use him.”

Other quick hits before getting back to a dead-tree edition story…

* Safety Kenny Tate hurt his elbow yesterday but returned to the game.

* Friedgen was not at all pleased with his offense’s performance. Tough to blame him, since the running game was almost completely stifled.

“Offensively, Danny Oquendo and Cory Jackson played good and that’s about it,” Friedgen said. “I don’t think we played very well at all offensively.”

He did add Chris Turner “got everything out of the offense that he probably could have.”

Friedgen spent all of one practice last week with the defense. That might not be the last time that happens.
