Lots of losing among top teams this week.

Lots of it.

Duke, Pittsburgh, Wake Forest, Michigan State, Texas … all lost this week.

But a team worth mentioning in this rundown is Saint Mary’s.

The Gaels lost point guard Patrick Mills to injury this week. They also lost to Gonzaga (no shame) or Portland (not exactly a titan).

So Saint Mary’s goes from No. 19 to not even in the top 45. And that’s because Mills is what makes the Gaels a team worthy of consideration.

If he returns in another month, don’t be surprised if Saint Mary’s suddenly reappears after a victory or two. But for now, it’s tough to see the Gaels as a team worthy of rankings consideration.
