FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. —- Like so many in the Baltimore/D.C. area, I despise traffic.
Work takes me through the Montgomery County/Northern Virginia portions of the Beltway maybe a dozen or so times a year, and every time I make that drive I wonder just how anyone could tolerate doing it every single day.

Fortunately, the Glen Burnie-to-CP commute requires zero time on the Beltway. But now that I’m in South Florida, there’s really no escaping a looming disaster —- driving from Fort Lauderdale from Coral Gables.
Allegedly, this is a 30-mile drive. I’m told by some locals it will take about two hours if I leave around 5:30 for a 9 p.m. tip.
So this part of the trip —- not fun at all.
On the bright side, there might be an exasperating tale or two to provide once I finally make it to BankUnited Center.
