Just came across an interesting tidbit on an old favorite.

Ray Rychleski, who left Maryland after the 2007 season to take a gig with South Carolina, is a candidate to become an assistant on Jim Caldwell‘s staff with the Indianapolis Colts according to The State newspaper in Columbia, S.C.

That would be a heck of a climb for Rychleski, who could go from more than a decade in the ACC (Wake Forest and Maryland) to a stop at South Carolina to the pros.

It’s no secret Rychleski wants to eventually become a head coach, and the success of first-year Baltimore Ravens coach John Harbaugh (a former special teams coach) has to help anyone whose speciality is specialists.

It should be noted Rychleski worked for Caldwell at Wake Forest for 1993 to 2000, so this would be a move that makes sense for both parties.

Anyway, just an interesting coaching tidbit on an old special teams coach as the wait continues for Maryland to find another new one.
