Maryland basketball coach Gary Williams arrived for his first media session of the new year in a bit of a cheeky mood.
This, of course, ensured a little bit of hilarity.
Williams was asked if running crisp offense is a matter of timing as much as anything else.
“A lot of it’s a mental thing,” Williams said. “The players know the plays. It’s just focusing on each play, each possession. It’s a hard game. We have to play offense and defense in our game. It’s hard. Some sports you don’t have to do that. It’s amazing if you think about it.”
And so for anyone who figured it would take less than seven minutes for Williams to take his first jab at collegiate athletics other major sports, congratulations on your prescience. More props to you if you guessed it would not be of the “we don’t have divisions in basketball in our league” variety.
