DURHAM, N.C. —- Just got into Cameron about 20 minutes ago, and found out some sad news.

Kay Yow, the longtime N.C. State women’s basketball coach and the sister of Maryland athletic director Debbie Yow, died this morning after battling cancer over the last 22 years.

Obviously, condolences go out both to Yow’s family and the entire N.C. State athletic department. Kay Yow was an institution in Raleigh and won more than 700 games with the Wolfpack.

Even more importantly, she paired her battle with cancer with a desire to raise as much money for finding a cure to the disease as possible, mirroring the efforts of Jim Valvano —- another N.C. State coach who was claimed by cancer.
