ATLANTA —- Really, could Virginia Tech follow last year’s script any more closely?
The Hokies beat Miami handily in their ACC tournament opener to establish themselves as an NCAA possibility. Then they lose in wrenching fashion to North Carolina to dash their dreams.

There will be a lot of grumbling about a late jump ball with the Hokies down a point. I’ll be curious to see if the Atlanta P.D. gets a call from J.T. Thompson about getting mugged. Or at least hugged. Or something. That was a debatable call at the end, but less debatable than some other calls in this one.
So Virginia Tech’s tournament spot is tenuous at best (and probably gone altogether). Should be interesting to see what other surprises are lurking today.
