RICHMOND —- Let’s clear up some misconceptions before getting to any other business here at the CAA tournament.
This is not a neutral court.

Sure, it’s technically not on Virginia Commonwealth‘s campus. And the CAA tournament isn’t part of the season ticket package. But the Richmond Coliseum is filled with gold, and VCU couldn’t ask for a more supportive crowd.
It’s also a much different venue than the one I covered a game in yesterday. Virginia’s John Paul Jones is a gem, if a little big for its fanbase. The Richmond Coliseum is, well, a relic from a bygone era —- functional, yes; luxurious, no. It’s never a good sign when people are sitting around talking about the smell of elephants from the circus’ recent visit.
Anyway, the highlight of the day (beyond a very competitive game) was a halftime Segway race where one of the two contestants wiped out.
Anyway, in a quick star watch, VCU’s Eric Maynor has 13 points and Old Dominion’s Gerald Lee is stuck on only two points. That’s a big part of why the Rams are up 35-32 with 13:27 to go.
Mason-Towson begins around 5:30. More on that game closer to tip-off.
