Saturday was a rather remarkable day for the Maryland basketball team. Its NCAA tournament hopes, if not completely torn asunder, were at the least shredded enough to make it seem like the postseason berth they are chasing is a lot less likely than it was before they went to Charlottesville.
The individual plus-minus numbers, however meaningful they are for a single game, don’t directly ID a single culprit. This was indeed a team effort, and whether everyone, no one or some number in between didn’t play hard, the Terps as a whole sure seemed lethargic once they coughed up that early 21-8 lead.
SEE RELATED:
It sort of felt like a mini-Georgia Tech game (the first one). Maryland didn’t shoot well, but better than that Jan. 10 game. Virginia kept turning it over, though it was never on a miscue-a-minute pace like the Yellow Jackets were in the first half.
As it turned out, there was a team with a big lead that frittered it away on the road. So please excuse my believe I was watching a rerun; I was, just with the roles juxtaposed.
Enough of that. Onto the statistical rundown, the final one of the regular season:
