It isn’t quite like last year for the ACC, when 10 teams achieved bowl eligibility.

Already, the league is capped at eight with Maryland, N.C. State, Virginia and Wake Forest all ineligible for the postseason. And it could get worse.

For there to be a No. 8 team for the EagleBank Bowl to select, the following things must happen:

* Florida State defeats Maryland OR Florida
* Duke defeats Miami AND Wake Forest

By Saturday, Duke could be eliminated and the Dec. 29 game at RFK Stadium will be down its ACC team for this season.

As for the other tie-ins …

The Black Knights rallied to defeat VMI on Saturday, improving to 4-6 and maintaining their bowl hopes. Army still has to defeat North Texas (on Saturday) and Navy (on Dec. 12) to become eligible.

Central Florida, East Carolina and Southern Mississippi are all eligible, and UAB and Marshall are a victory away. East Carolina leads the division and wouldn’t be available if won the league title game. But if not, the Pirates would have to be an extremely appealing team to bring up I-95 to D.C.
