When you get one head coach and one player to talk to at a press conference, well, the story that is produced from said press conference probably has a bit of a ceiling to it.

Nonetheless, here’s the result from my trip to Charlottesville yesterday.

There’s not a lot of uncovered ground here. But what is interesting is lining up in chart form what everyone seems to know: The Cavaliers are kings of October.

Here’s the month-by-month rundown for Virginia since 2006, with August counting as September for matters of practicality:

Year Sept.
Oct. Nov.
2006 2-3 2-2 1-2 —-
2007 4-1 3-1 2-1 0-1
2008 1-3 4-0 0-4 —-
2009 0-3 2-0 —- —-
7-10 11-3
3-7 0-1

Dating back to Maryland’s come-from-behind victory in Charlottesville in 2006, Virginia has won 11 of its last 12 in October. Whatever midseason magic the Cavaliers seem to summon, it does not bode well for Maryland come Saturday.
