Maryland coach Ralph Friedgen wasn’t in a terribly talkative mood this afternoon, and didn’t shed much light on linebacker Demetrius Hartsfield‘s status.

“He moved around all right,” Friedgen said. “He was in full [contact]. He didn’t have the black shirt on today.”

Hartsfield, who broke his left hand in Saturday’s loss at Wake Forest. did have the black shirt on Tuesday. So today was a sign of progress for the redshirt freshman, who was to undergo surgery either this week or next.

Considering he’s wearing a big, white club on his hand and practicing rather than a smaller cast while standing on the sideline, it would be rational to deduce he will play this week and the undergo surgery and miss the Duke and N.C. State games.

Friedgen, though, wasn’t tipping his hand.

“I’ll have to look at the tape,” he said.

Tomorrow, then, will be the likely time we’ll hear about Hartsfield’s status for Saturday.
