DURHAM, N.C. —- It’s pouring at a Maryland football game.

In other news, the sun rises in the east and sets in the west —- well, except on days like today when it’s raining from beginning to end.

Here’s the significant developments:

* Safety Antwine Perez is awake and alert after being carted off in the first quarter. A team spokesman said it was not a concussion, but the junior isn’t expected to return.

* A trickle down from Perez’s injury was the decision to use freshman safety Eric Franklin for a handful of plays. Franklin is the 10th true freshman to play this season, the most in Ralph Friedgen‘s tenure.

* So far, Maryland has no turnovers and no penalties, but is still down 10-6. Points are going to be really hard to come by so long as the rain keeps coming down like it is.

More to come later in the afternoon, but so far it hasn’t been as explosive a day as anticipated for the offenses.
